Larry Fitzgerald Inks Largest NFL Deal EVER!
The Arizona Cardinals just made 5 time pro bowler Larry Fitzgerald a very happy man as he signed his new 8 year deal worth up to $120 million. The city of Phoenix and all Arizona fans can now exhale; the best wide receiver in football is theirs for life.
“Fitz”, as he is so affectionately known, should now be a Cardinal for his entire career. This humble and totally normal guy was quoted “To have to talk about it on the business side is a little bit uncomfortable,” said Fitzgerald, who turns 28 on Aug. 31. “But I am really happy to put it behind us.”
Fitzgerald caught 90 passes for 1,137 yards and six touchdowns last season with almost no consistency at all from the quarterback position. He has topped 90 catches and 1,000 receiving yards in five of his seven NFL seasons, including the last four. He has 613 catches, the most in franchise history, for 8,204 yards and 65 touchdowns. Fitzgerald needs just 294 yards and two touchdowns to surpass Roy Green’s franchise records in those categories.
The Cardinals are making a big statement this year by first bringing in new starting quarterback Kevin Kolb from Philadelphia and now making Fitzgerald a Cardinal for life. It will be interesting to see where the season takes this team. Last year they finished 5-11 and this year there is a different feeling in Phoenix.
From a fans standpoint, thank you Arizona for making “Fitz” a Cardinal for life. From the Locker Smash point of view, we say congrats to one hell of a good man that happens to be the best wide out in the league. Knock em’ out this year Fitz!
