Yankees / Tigers: Fights Will Break Out in Game 4

If Larry Rothschild is good at his job, the Yankees and Tigers will be throwing punches in game 4.
The Yankees and Tigers have been very mellow to this point, but I would look for that to change. Game 4 of this best of 5 series could be one for the ages. Though both of these teams are full of professionals, but if the Yankees do their film work we could see the benches clear in game 4.
After the Tigers took a 4-2 lead in game 3, Verlander smelled blood in the water. He became the definition of a power pitcher. He threw inside, he was still hitting 100+mph on the radar gun after 100 pitches and he was in complete control. The one thing that Yankees pitching coach will see tomorrow is that Verlander took control of the inside corner.
Hard throwing right hander A.J. Burnett takes the mound for the Yankees against fellow hard throwing right hander Rick Porcello in game 4. This matchup should also be good, but watch for the tempers to fly a bit in this elimination game.
The Tigers will throw inside more in this series and some tempers could flare up in game 4. Yankees Pitching Coach Larry Rothschild will certainly watch film of game 4 and see how effective Verlander was throwing inside and want to advise Burnett to do the same. Unfortunately with Young, Cabrera and Ordonez it doesn’t really matter much. The Tigers offense is geared toward inside pitching and all their big bats have top 1% opposite power.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see benches clear if the Tigers take an early lead and throw inside on Texiera, Jeter or Cano. They will be forced to retaliate with Burnett by head hunting Cabrera or Young, as they both crowd the plate against hard throwers. By hitting one of the 3 Detroit hot heads we could be in store for more than we bargained in game 4.
For those that forgot…
- Tigers pitcher, Rick Porcello has already “been there” with the Red Sox slugger Kevin Youkilis
- The Yankees have some big egos to go with their big pockets
- Everyone wants to beat up A-Rod
- Delmon Young was almost ousted from baseball for life after throwing his bat and hitting an umpire square in the chest in the minors. If he feels like he is being thrown at, he could blow!
