Casey Affleck to Direct Josh Hamilton(Video) Biopic
Search for Sports Apps! Josh Hamilton is in the very top tier of Major League Baseball players, if not THE top player.
He had a rough road to super-stardom despite being the first player chosen in the 1999 draft. Addiction to cocaine and alcohol eventually led to being kicked out of baseball altogether.
Hamilton finally was signed by the Cincinnati Reds in 2007 after committing to recovery and petitioning for reinstatement. After being traded to the Texas Rangers a year later, he went on to become one of baseball’s biggest stars, earning MVP honors in 2010 and hitting 35 Home Run Derby homers in 2008.
Producer Basil Iwanyk (Warner Brothers), who owns the story rights and will co-produce Hamilton’s story for the big screen, had this to say about why he has taken on the project.
“I truly think this guy’s story is one of the most inspiring stories I’ve ever read. It’s also tailor-made for a movie: it has the mythic quality of The Natural, the faith-based angle of The Blind Side, and faith is a major part of our story, and the romance of Walk the Line. Casey has totally captured those elements in his take for the movie. It is an extraordinary odyssey that took him from the depths of drug addiction, estrangement from his family, and suspension from baseball to a spectacular rebirth of his life, faith, marriage and major league career.”
Can’t wait to see Hamilton’s inspiring story on the big screen.
