L.T. Hosts Press Conference to Announce Retirement as Charger
Search for Sports Apps! NFL great LaDainian Tomlinson was introduced at Charger Park today to officially sign with the San Diego Chargers one last time as he ends his professional career.
Chargers’ President Dean Spanos opened the press conference with memories of the draft and watching one of the greatest players ever to play for his organization. “It’s not often that a player comes along who defines your team, and the NFL for that matter, for the better part of a decade.” “Few players have played a bigger role or meant more to this team and this city, since L.T.” Said Spanos on L.T.
After Spanos’ short speech and video highlights of Tomlinson, he called Tomlinson up to sign a ceremonial one day contract to end his career and forever be immortalized as a San Diego Charger.
L.T. then approached the stage and gave a short speech thanking those who helped him along his career. His long list of people to thank is a token of Tomlinson’s humbleness and character. Among those thanked were his family, offensive line, the Jets organization, and even down the the equipment managers for having kept him healthy throughout his long career.
It was hard not to feel nostalgic when Tomlinson talked about the unforgettable season in which Tomlinson snapped the single season touchdown record. One could almost feel the crowd cheering “L.T., L.T., L.T.” – and the bond that he had with the organization and the members of the team. Said Tomlinson “I’ve always felt like a Charger”
Tomlinson reiterated that it was his time to move on to a new phase of his life. He quoted the late Junior Seau when he retired in August 2006, saying, “I feel like I’m graduating”. That is the attitude that Tomlinson is taking, as he emerges into the next phase in his life. He was asked if he were going to go into the media or stick around the game somehow, to which he replied “I’m sure I’ll be around the game in some capacity”. Not being able to reveal what exactly, he continued to say “I’ve got some things brewing”.
NFL and Charger fans alike will be anxious to see what Tomlinson does in the next chapter of his life. As for today, we remember the superstar’s outstanding career.
