Trade Rumors Swirl Around Chicago Bulls’ Luol Deng

Luol Deng - Trade Rumors

Just a couple of days ago, a report from Golden State Warriors beat writer Marcus Thompson of the Contra Costa Times stated that the Warriors would be interested in Chicago Bulls small forward Luol Deng if he was made available. Well, things are starting to heat up on that front, so much so that Deng even commented Sunday on the possibility of being dealt.

“I believe there is always to some extent truth behind rumors,” Deng said. “But as an athlete, if you get caught up in them, you are really wasting your time because it’s not something that you can control.” (ESPN Chicago)

Deng – who is at Great Britain’s training camp in Houston – obviously would love to stay with the Bulls, but he understands that trades are a part of the business. He realizes that rumors like these come with the territory, and he even admits that if he were a GM, he’d be shopping around guys too.

Fueling more speculation about a Deng/Warriors deal is the fact that Golden State scout Speedy Claxton was on hand at Sunday’s Great Britain practice session. Also interesting is this article from The Telegraph (newspaper in the UK), which states that the Bulls have actually offered Deng and the 29th pick to the Warriors for the seventh pick, Andris Biedrins and Dorell Wright. I have not seen word of official talks between the two teams anywhere else, so I’m not totally sure what to make of this report. Perhaps it’s just a miswording…or perhaps there’s something to it?

Either way, expect plenty more rumors to pop up over the next week as we get closer and closer to draft day. Whether or not Deng gets traded is anybody’s guess (I’m still thinking he stays put), but it’s apparent that a move is at least being considered. Stay tuned.
