The date: July 6, 1983.  The place: Comiskey Park, Chicago – home of the Chicago White Sox.  The 54th Major League Baseball All-Star Game – 50th anniversary of the inaugural Mid-Summer Classic in 1933.

The American League won the game 13-3 as California Angels center fielder Fred Lynn hit the first and still only grand slam in All-Star Game history.   Ironically,  NBC had just aired a graphic indicating that there had never been a grand slam hit in All-Star history.

Lynn was named the game’s Most Valuable Player.
