The 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London, England will not include any new sports, but will feature several new events including women’s boxing (three weight classes), mixed doubles in tennis and Omnium racing in track cycling. New sports and events are continually proposed for the games, some as outrageous as pole dancing.
Now, an entirely new sport deeply rooted in pop culture is being showcased via the arrival of the Olympic torch in Oxford. We give you Quidditch, the favorite sport of the wizards-in-training of Hogwarts. Quidditch actually currently counts about 700 teams in 25 countries, most in the U.S.
That college student you saw riding a broomstick horse around campus just might be a future Olympian!
