The long relay of the iconic Olympic Torch to the site of the Games has included many legendary sports figures in the past, and this year’s run is no exception.

Sir Roger Bannister returned to the site of one of the great milestone Olympic achievements.  Bannister carried the Olympic torch as he walked some 30 yards along the Oxford track where, on May 6, 1954, he became the first runner to break the 4 minute mile barrier with a time of 3:59.4.  Ironically, he had considered retiring before his famed run.

The torch will arrive at Olympic Stadium for the opening ceremonies on July 27.
