Video: The Rich Get Richer – Ray Allen Moves on to South Beach

Ray Allen Heads to Miami

The NBA champion Miami Heat have taken a huge step toward repeating with the decision (no pun intended) of the Boston Celtics’ Ray Allen to join them next season (he cannot actually sign a contract until July 11 in accordance with free agency rules).  Allen, the NBA leader in career 3 pointers, will be making about half, about $3 million, of what the Celtics offered him to stay.

With the Heat, Allen joins a group that seems to have embraced the 3 point shot as a major weapon, as evidenced in last years’ finals win over the OKC Thunder.

In addition to seemingly fitting in perfectly with the Heat, Allen’s departure would also appear to weaken their fierce rivals, the Celtics – clearly a double win for Miami.

The Heat are certainly beginning to benefit from the usual fallout of winning the NBA championship – good players hungry for a ring want to play for them and accept less money to do so.  Whether this move all but insures another title remains to be seen – injuries, chemistry and father time (Allen turns 37 this summer) still need to be reckoned with – but the Heat appear to be on their way.

Still……..they do have to play the games.
