In the first game of a double-header against the Kansas City Royals, the Bill Veeck owned White Sox wore shorts along with their already re-designed jerseys. The move prompted the Royals’ John Mayberry to comment, “You guys are the sweetest team we’ve seen yet.”
As fate would have it, the Sox won the “shortened” first game 5-2, but dropped the nightcap 7-1 after changing back to their regular uniforms.
