Stephen Hawking to Open 2012 London Paralympic Games (Video)
Search for Sports Apps! The 2012 London Paralympic Games promise a spectacular opening ceremony starring famed British scientist Stephen Hawking. Author of the best-selling “A Brief History of Time”, Hawking will narrate parts of the Olympic stadium opening ceremonies today. Organizers are unanimous - ”He’s a fun guy.”
A record 4,200 Paralympic athletes from more than 160 countries will perform in 20 sports during the Games’ 11 days of competition.
The Games have sold an unprecedented 2.5 million tickets (a first-time ever sellout is being predicted) and the International Paralympic Committee anticipates that more than 4 billion people will watch on television in over 100 countries.
The women’s 10m standing air rifle shooting event is set to provide the first gold of the Games on Thursday.
Oscar Pistorius, the first athlete in history to compete in both the Olympic and Paralympic Games, will also be competing. Known as “Blade Runner”, Pistorius will have a shot at 4 Gold Medals.
