Usain Bolt More of a Class Act than a Cocky Athlete
Search for Sports Apps! Although respect for other nation’s anthems and cultures is expected during the Olympics, we know that is not always the case. After a preliminary race, Usain Bolt stops an interview with a Spanish reporter when the US National Anthem began playing. This occurred because Sanya Richards-Ross was being presented with her gold medal. Bolt did not hesitate to stop the interview — which was being aired live — to show his respect for another athlete, the United States and the Olympics as a whole.
For those of you who are thinking “what’s the big deal,” there are plenty of athletes who would just continue their interview without thinking twice about it. That doesn’t mean they would be disrespecting a fellow competitor or country intentionally, but the fact that Bolt didn’t think twice about it says a lot about his character. Many people have always felt that Usain Bolt is nothing more than a cocky athlete who can run faster than anyone else in the world. Well sometimes a bit of cockiness is deserved after greatness, but even some of the greatest athletes would not stop their 15 minutes of fame to acknowledge the accomplishments of another person.
